'EX MACHINA' is a series of self-portraits created using OpenAI's DALL-E neural network. These pieces were chosen to be a part of the RealDreams artificial intelligence showcase in London in 2022.

I was selected to be a part of OpenAI's artist program giving me early access to the extremely advanced DALL-E neural network.

The following portraits were created using only a text prompt to describe myself, at no point were images of myself fed into the network.

These portraits gave rise to many questions during the artistic process:

 

Is the text prompt really the self-portrait ?

Is a neural network a tool - or could this be considered a collaboration?

​

As new artforms emerge, new questions about our interactions with technology will arise. New language will emerge.
