In Dec 2019 I was commissioned by Stoneface Films to direct a stage visual for Hozier's final two arena shows in Dublin. Direction, design and most animation was by myself, within a two week turnaround with some additional 3D elements by artists Loris Accaries and Billy Glow.

 

'No Plan' is based on the following quote by Dr. Katie Mack.

 

"A universe whose expansion is accelerating is one in which galaxies are relentlessly driven apart from each other. Space on the whole gets darker, emptier, and colder, and the lack of interactions starves galaxies of their supply of fuel for new stars.

 

"Stars die, matter decays, and eventually the cosmos is devoid of all structure, with only trace amounts of radiation wandering aimlessly through the void."

 

To represent the concept of the heat death of the universe and eternal expansion into the void I used the iconography of the circle. We see the circle within an atom and then get progressively larger. From the cell, human biology and eventually zooming out of the Dublin 3Arena itself where the shows took place. The visual then zooms through space and eventually into a black hole and darkness as the song ends.
